Allardice Castle

Allardice Castle is a tower house with an L-shaped design in Aberdeenshire, built from thick stone walls with small windows for defense. The structure combines a main block with a projecting wing positioned near Bervie Water.

Built around 1600, the castle emerged during a time when Scottish nobles protected their lands with stone fortifications. It served as both a residence and defensive structure for a local noble family.

The castle shows how Scottish noble families built their homes with stone defenses in the 1600s. The L-shaped design balanced protection with living space for the residents.

The Cowie family still lives in the castle and maintains its status as a listed building. This makes it one of the few inhabited medieval defensive structures in the area.
