Museum of Bad Art, Art museum in Dorchester, Boston, United States.
The Museum of Bad Art is an art gallery inside Dorchester Brewing Company in Boston. The space shows roughly 35 works selected from a larger collection on rotation.
The institution began in 1993 when Scott Wilson found a painting titled Lucy in the Field with Flowers near trash bins. He then started gathering similar works and building a public collection.
The gallery hangs genuine paintings created by artists whose earnest work led to unexpected results. Each piece shows details or proportions that differ from usual visual habits.
The gallery sits inside the brewery at 1250 Massachusetts Avenue and opens free of charge during business hours starting at 11:30 AM. A visit pairs well with a stop at the brewing space.
Curators turn down nine out of ten submitted works because they fail to meet the collection's criteria. Only paintings with certain qualities make it onto the wall.
