The Cathedral Basilica features three domes, two spires, and an exterior made of granite with interior surfaces of brick, marble, and mosaic tiles.
Construction of this Byzantine Revival cathedral began in 1907 under architects Barnett, Haynes & Barnett, with dedication ceremonies taking place in October 1914.
The interior contains 41.5 million glass tesserae pieces arranged in mosaic patterns, spanning 83,000 square feet throughout the cathedral's chambers and corridors.
The cathedral opens Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturday through Sunday from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM with regular mass services.
The basement museum displays construction artifacts and details about the mosaic installation process, which continued from 1912 until 1988.
