Blue Earth County, County seat in southern Minnesota, United States.

Blue Earth County spans 766 square miles of agricultural land with rolling hills and two major rivers flowing through its territory.

The county was established on March 5, 1853, when settlers divided portions of Dakota County and free territory into a new administrative region.

The Dakota people, particularly the Sisseton tribe, maintained strong connections to the land before European settlement changed the regional demographics.

The county government provides residents with extensive online resources, including property information systems and details about surplus inventory auctions.

The name originates from the blue-green clay deposits found along the banks of the Blue Earth River that flows through the region.
