Amicalola Falls State Park, State park in Dawsonville, United States

Amicalola Falls State Park is a nature reserve in Dawsonville, northern Georgia, centered around a multi-tiered cascade that drops 729 feet (222 meters). The park covers 829 acres (335 hectares) and includes a mountain lodge, camping facilities, and several trails that wind through dense forest.

Cherokee communities lived here and named the waterfall Amicalola before European settlers arrived in the region during the 19th century. The park was officially designated as a protected area in the 20th century and received its current visitor facilities.

The Cherokee term refers to tumbling waters and marks the connection between the cascade and indigenous communities in this region. Hikers often begin their journey along the Appalachian Trail here, following a path that stretches through the eastern mountains for thousands of miles.

Hiking trails lead to different viewpoints along the waterfall and through the surrounding woodland. A visitor center near the entrance provides information and orientation for exploring the grounds.

White-tailed deer and black bears roam the mixed forests and open meadows of the park. Bird watchers spot numerous species nesting and resting in the different vegetation zones.
