Knob Noster, city in Johnson County, Missouri, United States
Knob Noster is a small city in Johnson County, Missouri, set along US Route 50 in the midwest, surrounded by farmland. The downtown area is modest, with a handful of local shops, churches, and residential streets lined with single-family homes.
The area was settled in the mid-1800s by farmers and travelers passing through on what would become US Route 50. Whiteman Air Force Base, established in the 1940s, brought a new wave of residents and shaped the town's growth in its modern era.
The name Knob Noster comes from two words: "knob" for a rounded hilltop nearby, and "noster," Latin for "ours." Local streets mix older wooden houses with newer brick homes, giving the town a layered look that spans several generations.
Most visitors arrive by car, and parking is easy to find along the main streets near the center. Knob Noster State Park sits just outside town and is a good starting point for a walk without needing to travel far.
Whiteman Air Force Base, located right next to town, is one of the few places in the world where the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber is permanently based. The aircraft can occasionally be spotted taking off or landing, making the area an unexpected spot for aviation watchers.
