Oak Brook, Suburban village in DuPage County, Illinois, US.
Oak Brook is a suburb in northeastern Illinois, west of Chicago, with residential neighborhoods and office complexes around large shopping centers. Streets run between green spaces and older tree clusters, and low buildings alternate with open lawns.
A dairy farm from 1898 marked the beginning of the settlement, which became an official municipality in 1958. Since then it has grown into a business center with retail and corporate offices, while green spaces between buildings have remained.
The name comes from the oak trees along the original creek, which still shape the look of the community. Many houses sit between old tree stands, and on weekends families walk through public parks along the green corridors.
Main roads lead to highway ramps that are reached within minutes, and the suburb sits close to commuter lines toward Chicago. Most facilities are designed for visitors with cars, but walkways connect shopping districts to nearby parking lots.
The polo grounds within the community are among the few still operating in the Chicago region, and tournaments take place during the warm months. The fields border walking trails directly, so visitors can watch the sport up close.
