Fort Gregg-Adams, Military base and census-designated place in Prince George County, Virginia
Fort Gregg-Adams is an active military base in Prince George County, Virginia, covering roughly 22 square kilometers (8.4 square miles). It serves as headquarters for the United States Army Combined Arms Support Command and houses several training schools for soldiers.
The base opened in 1917 as Camp Lee and trained more than 60,000 soldiers of the 80th Division before they deployed to Europe during World War I. In April 2023, it was renamed to honor Lieutenant General Arthur J. Gregg and Lieutenant Colonel Charity Adams Earley.
The installation contains two educational institutions: the U.S. Army Quartermaster Museum and the U.S. Army Women's Museum, displaying military artifacts and historical collections.
Visitors can get information and assistance at the Welcome Center by calling (804) 734-5053 during regular hours. As an active military installation, the site operates under controlled access rules and all visitors must follow security procedures.
On April 27, 2023, this became the first United States military base to carry the names of two African American service members. Lieutenant General Arthur J. Gregg and Lieutenant Colonel Charity Adams Earley both played important roles in the history of the American armed forces.
