Hendrix College, Liberal arts college in Conway, Arkansas
Hendrix College is a liberal arts college in Conway, Arkansas. The buildings spread across 71 hectares (175 acres) with brick facades in a classical style, green spaces between the residence halls, and wide footpaths under old trees.
Methodist clergymen founded the institution in 1876 under the name Central Institute. The name changed in 1889 to honor a bishop who supported the development of the college in the late 19th century.
Students often wear T-shirts featuring the Warrior mascot, which represents the athletic teams and campus spirit. The library and common spaces fill with study groups in the evening, while students sit on the lawns between classes.
Visitor tours usually take place on weekday mornings and start at the admissions office reception. The paths between buildings are mostly flat and shaded, which makes walking easier on warm days.
The Odyssey program requires each student to complete at least three projects outside the classroom, including internships, research, or time abroad. This requirement makes experiential learning a mandatory part of graduation, not just an option.
