Snow Hill, town in North Carolina, United States of America
Snow Hill is a small town in Greene County, North Carolina, serving as the county seat and administrative center. The town features historic brick buildings and churches arranged along quiet streets, surrounded by farmland and countryside.
Snow Hill was founded in 1811 and officially established as a town in 1828, named after a nearby plantation. The location is near the site of the Fort Neoheroka battle in 1713 during the Tuscarora War.
The name Snow Hill may come from white sands along Contentnea Creek that Native Americans called 'snowy white'. The community regularly gathers for local events and celebrations that bring residents together to share in the town's heritage and traditions.
The town is connected by U.S. routes to nearby cities like Greenville and Goldsboro and offers basic services including government offices, fire protection, and street maintenance. Visitors can easily walk through the older parts of town, while quiet local roads lead into the surrounding countryside.
Snow Hill had a baseball team called the Snow Hill Billies in the 1930s that played in the Coastal Plain League and won a league title. Several players from this team started their careers here and later advanced to professional leagues, including some who played for the New York Yankees.
