The Plains Art Museum occupies a renovated International Harvester warehouse featuring multiple exhibition spaces for contemporary art, traditional Native American pieces, and rotating displays.
Founded in 1965 as the Red River Art Center in Moorhead, the institution relocated to Fargo in 1997 after merging with the O'Rourke Art Gallery Museum.
The museum maintains a collection of three thousand works, including pieces by Andy Warhol, Salvador Dalí, and numerous Native American artists from the Northern Plains region.
Visitors can explore the galleries Monday through Friday from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with extended hours until 9:00 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The museum launched a podcast called '5 Plain Questions' in 2020, featuring interviews with Indigenous artists and creators from the region.
