Abbot Hall, Municipal building in Marblehead, US
The Romanesque brick building at 188 Washington Street features a clock tower, stone trimmings, and a large auditorium that seats twelve hundred people.
Benjamin Abbot bequeathed $103,000 to construct this municipal hall in 1872, with the building completed between 1876 and 1877 by architects Lord and Fuller.
The Selectmen's Room displays the Spirit of '76 painting and the original 1684 Town Deed, while the Maritime Museum preserves local naval heritage.
The Historical Commission Gift Shop opens Monday through Thursday from 10:00 to 4:00, Friday mornings until 12:30, with extended summer weekend hours.
The bell and clock in the tower came as donations from James Gregory, a Marblehead seed merchant, during the 1877 dedication ceremony.
