Ahern State Park, State park at Lake Winnisquam, Laconia, US.
Ahern State Park spans approximately 128 acres along the shoreline of Lake Winnisquam in New Hampshire. Forested trails wind through the property and lead to beach access where the water meets the land.
The property was part of the Laconia State School until 1994, when it was transferred to become Governor's State Park. The site took its current name, Ahern State Park, in 1998.
The park's name honors a former connection to local governance and institutional land use in the region. Visitors walking here experience a space reclaimed for public enjoyment after decades of different purposes.
Parking is located outside the entrance gate, requiring a five-minute walk to reach the beach area. This setup means the upper portion of the park stays quieter while visitors explore the wooded sections first.
The park operates year-round without permanent staff on site, allowing visitors to experience nature without structured programs or extensive facilities. This minimal management approach creates a more open and self-directed visit.
