Alvord House, Historic house in Salina, United States
The Alvord House is a two-story fieldstone structure with brick lintels and a gable roof, located at 399 Marsden Road in Salina. The building features timber framing, two end chimneys positioned on opposite sides, a wood cornice, and a cellar beneath the main structure.
Built in 1835 by Dioclesian Alvord, a businessman involved in the salt industry, the house represents early rural settlement in upstate New York. The Onondaga Pottery Company later acquired the property and operated it as employee housing until the company's operations closed in the 1960s.
The house serves as a community gathering space within Fred Sehr Memorial Park and reflects the area's connection to its rural past. Visitors can observe how the property functions as a meeting point for local events and remains woven into neighborhood life today.
The house is situated within Fred Sehr Memorial Park, making it easily accessible to visitors exploring the grounds. The site works well for a casual walk and viewing the historic structure from the exterior.
The pottery company housed its workers within the structure, creating a direct link between where they lived and their place of work. This arrangement offers visitors insight into how industrial employment shaped residential patterns during that era.
