Bethel House

Bethel House is a single-story residential home in Des Arc built with a wood frame and horizontal siding under a side-gable roof. A recessed front porch features columns supported by fieldstone piers that give the entrance its distinctive character.

Architect Charles L. Thompson designed this house in 1918 as Des Arc was beginning to develop its residential areas. The building incorporates Bungalow and Craftsman style elements that were popular in Arkansas during that period.

The property earned recognition from the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, reflecting its role in preserving Arkansas architectural heritage.

The house sits at the corner of Erwin and 2nd Streets in Des Arc and is visible from the public right-of-way. The property retains its original structure and historic character that remains apparent to visitors passing by.

One notable feature is the broad cross gable on the front facade, which was Thompson's signature design mark for small residential buildings. This architectural detail sets the house apart from other residential structures of the same period in the region.
