Black Hawk Hotel, Cedar Falls, Iowa, on the National Register of Historic Places, United States

The Black Hawk Hotel is a four-story building in Second Empire style with blended Second Empire and Mission elements located in downtown Cedar Falls. The hotel contains 28 rooms and suites that blend old-world aesthetics with modern amenities, featuring decorative rooflines, tall windows, and a balanced exterior design.

The hotel was first established in 1853 as the Winslow House and served stagecoach travelers along early routes. After a fire in the late 1870s destroyed the original building, the present structure was erected and redesigned by architects in 1914, blending Second Empire and Mission styles.

The hotel takes its name from the Sauk leader Black Hawk and serves as a community gathering place where past and present intertwine. Locals and visitors alike experience the space as a hub that keeps stories of Cedar Falls alive through daily interaction.

The hotel sits in the heart of Cedar Falls and serves as a good starting point for exploring nearby shops, restaurants, and historic sites throughout the town. Visitors can walk the area on foot and discover architectural details and the historic character of the neighborhood at their own pace.

The hotel is reportedly haunted, and local guides share stories of strange occurrences and ghostly visits as part of their tours. These paranormal tales have become part of the property's identity and draw visitors curious about its mysterious reputation.
