Hartman Reserve Nature Center, Nature reserve in Cedar Falls, Iowa, US
The 309-acre Hartman Reserve contains three different habitats including forest, wetland, and prairie, representing Black Hawk County's largest undisturbed wooded area.
The reserve began in 1938 when John C. Hartman, editor of the Waterloo Daily Courier, donated funds to the YMCA for purchasing 56 acres of land.
Educational programs at the interpretive center teach local students and community members about regional ecosystems through hands-on experiences and exhibits.
Visitors can explore over six miles of trails throughout the reserve, with options for hiking in summer and snowshoeing during winter months.
The reserve produces maple syrup from its sugar maple trees each winter, culminating in an annual Maple Syrup Festival that supports the center.
