Bosse Field, Baseball stadium in Evansville, United States.
The stadium is a baseball venue in Evansville, Indiana, built with red brick walls and a covered grandstand that runs along the baselines. Outfield dimensions reach 315 feet (96 meters) down the lines and 415 feet (126 meters) to center, while seating stretches in rows behind home plate.
The venue opened on June 17, 1915, as the first municipally funded sports facility in the United States and was named after Mayor Benjamin Bosse. It now ranks among the three oldest operating baseball parks in the country.
The grounds served as the main set for the 1992 baseball film about women's teams during the 1940s. Film visitors still recognize parts of the set design that were built into the structure.
The venue holds around 5,180 fixed seats along with some standing areas, and visitors reach it via North Main Street from the city center. Access points sit close to street level and are straightforward to find.
Mayor Bosse dismissed an entire school board in 1914 and appointed new members who then approved funding for the project. This political move allowed construction to proceed despite earlier opposition from city officials.
