Christdala Evangelical Swedish Lutheran Church
Christdala Evangelical Swedish Lutheran Church, Gothic Revival church in Forest Township, Minnesota.
Christdala Church is a wooden structure built in Gothic Revival style, standing on a hilltop near Circle Lake. The building features tall windows, pointed arch details, and a simple interior with original furnishings from its founding period.
The congregation built this structure in 1878 as a memorial following a tragic loss within the community. Its construction coincided with the period when Swedish settlers were establishing their communities across Minnesota.
The building reflects the heritage of Swedish immigrants who maintained their religious traditions in their new home. Inside, the simple and dignified design shows what mattered to Lutheran communities of that era.
The building is open for visitors and maintained by a local preservation group that also cares for the adjacent cemetery. The hilltop location requires a short walk from parking areas, but the setting is quiet and straightforward to explore.
The wooden structure has remained essentially unchanged since its construction over 140 years ago, preserving its original condition throughout. The interior furnishings, including the simple pulpit, date back to that early period and show how modest the founding community's resources were.
