Crisp Point Light, Historical lighthouse on Lake Superior shore in Luce County, US.
Crisp Point Light is a white brick tower standing on the shore of Lake Superior in Luce County. The structure rises about 18 meters above the water and holds a modern LED navigation light at its top that guides vessels through the treacherous lake passages.
The structure was built in 1904 and originally housed an advanced optical lens system to warn ships away from the dangerous shoreline. It played an important role in maritime traffic throughout this part of Lake Superior.
The Crisp Point Light Historical Society maintains the site, preserving maritime heritage through educational programs and guided tours of the restored tower.
The grounds are open year-round, but visitor facilities and centers operate only from May through October. Plan your visit around these seasonal periods and bring appropriate clothing for Lake Superior's changeable weather.
The original site buildings were destroyed by shoreline erosion, leaving only the tower and a single entrance wall standing. Today, restoration efforts allow visitors to see how this structure survived where everything else around it disappeared.
