Debar Mountain Wild Forest

Debar Mountain Wild Forest is a large protected area in the northeastern section of Adirondack Park, covering over 80,000 acres with mountains, lakes, and rivers throughout. The terrain varies from higher elevations to lower valleys where waterways flow through the landscape.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation designated this area as a protected wild forest to preserve natural resources in the Adirondacks. This protection allowed the region to remain available for recreation and natural forest management.

The forest maintains 22 miles of mountain bike paths, 16 miles of snowmobile tracks, and multiple water access points for outdoor recreation enthusiasts.

The forest is accessible through multiple state routes, with parking areas near trailheads along main roads. Different trails and areas require varying levels of preparation depending on what activities you plan to do.

The forest provides different lodging options ranging from basic tent sites to shelters, allowing visitors to choose their level of comfort. This variety means people can camp in ways that match their skills and preferences.
