Loon Lake Mountain Fire Observation Station, Fire lookout station in Franklin County, United States.

Loon Lake Mountain Fire Observation Station is a 35-foot steel tower positioned at 3,355 feet elevation in the Adirondack Mountains. The structure sits within a wild forest area and was designed to detect fires across the surrounding landscape.

A wooden tower from 1912 was replaced in 1917 by this steel structure. The facility operated until 1971, when fire observation activities ended.

The tower represents an era when forest fires were first monitored systematically across mountainous regions. This form of fire observation shaped how people understood woodland protection in the Adirondacks.

The site sits in a wild, undeveloped forest area best reached on foot. Keep in mind the tower cannot be climbed, as the internal stairs were removed to preserve the historic structure.

The tower was built by the Aermotor Corporation, a company better known for manufacturing windmills. This unusual connection shows how industrial makers adapted to new purposes.
