Echo Bridge, Stone arch bridge in Newton Upper Falls, Massachusetts
Echo Bridge spans 500 feet across the Charles River with seven granite arches, connecting Needham and Newton Upper Falls communities through Hemlock Gorge Reservation.
The bridge, constructed between 1875 and 1877, stood as the second longest masonry arch in the United States and carried the Sudbury Aqueduct system.
The bridge received recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 and earned designation as an American Water Landmark the following year.
Visitors can access the bridge through a parking lot on Ellis Street, with viewing platforms available both on top and underneath the structure.
The bridge produces sound reflections that repeat up to 25 times, as waves bounce between the water surface and the curved arch structure.
