Hohenems

Hohenems is a municipality in the Vorarlberg valley in Austria that spans approximately 29 square kilometers. Forest covers more than 40 percent of the territory, shaping the green character of the landscape.

The municipality received its rights in the Middle Ages but did not fully exercise them until the 20th century, after remaining a simple settlement for nearly 650 years. This late activation of its privileges marked a turning point in the place's modern history.

The town was once home to a significant Jewish community whose presence shaped local life for centuries. Today, visitors can explore this heritage through the museum dedicated to preserving these memories.

The town is connected to larger Austrian cities through the Vorarlberg railway line, offering good connections for arrivals. A local airfield provides an additional arrival option for those who prefer this mode of travel.

An impressive Renaissance palace stands at the foot of Schlossberg mountain and dates from between 1562 and 1567. The building was designed by Italian architect Martino Longhi the Elder and displays features of Renaissance architecture.
