St. Michael's Church

The church exhibits Romanesque architecture with Gothic elements, featuring a polygonal apse and two aisles that maintain the original medieval structure.

Leopold VI, Duke of Austria, initiated the construction of St. Michael's Church in 1219, establishing it as one of Vienna's earliest religious buildings.

The Michaelergruft crypt beneath the church contains over 4000 preserved bodies, including the remains of Pietro Metastasio, a prominent opera librettist.

Visitors can attend daily services at 6 PM, with additional Sunday services at 10 AM, 12 PM, and 6 PM, while guided tours require advance booking.

The church houses the largest organ in Vienna, the Sieber organ from 1714, which produces music throughout the baroque-style interior.
