Palais Modena, Historic palace in Innere Stadt, Austria

The Palais Modena stands on Herrengasse Street with its facade displaying 18 windows and two carriage entrances across three floors.

Originally owned by the Dietrichstein family in 1515, the palace underwent major renovations in 1811 when Archduchess Maria Beatrix of Este acquired the property.

The palace houses an octagonal vestibule connecting various ceremonial rooms and features a chapel dedicated to the Holy Cross and Jakob Kern.

The building currently functions as the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Interior, maintaining its governmental role since 1842.

Twenty-three Austrian prime ministers resided in this palace when it served as the Austrian Chancellery before its functions moved to Ballhausplatz in 1923.
