Stella Matutina, Jesuit convent and school in Feldkirch, Austria
Stella Matutina is a three-story school building in Feldkirch with traditional architectural features. It now houses the Vorarlberg State Conservatory, which provides musical education to students.
The school was founded in 1856 by the Jesuits as an important educational center. Operations ended in 1979, following a period of closure during World War II.
The name refers to the morning star and reflected the school's educational mission. Students from across Europe studied together here, bringing their different backgrounds and languages to the classrooms.
The building is located at Reichenfeldgasse 9 and is easy to find in the town center. Visitors should note that it functions as an active music education facility with limited public access during class hours.
The building contains an indoor swimming pool from 1912 that was the first of its kind in Austria-Hungary. English students introduced soccer to Austria, initially playing on wooden stilts before adopting standard rules.
