The castle remains stand at 531 meters above sea level, featuring a hexagonal tower, palace structure, and outer bailey with quarrystone walls.

The first documentation of the castle dates to 1125 when Wernhard de Stove owned it, followed by several noble families through centuries of occupation.

The Germanic name Stauf derives from ancient language terms referring to a cup without a foot, reflecting regional linguistic heritage.

The ruins open from 7 AM to 8 PM during summer months and 8 AM to 6 PM in winter, with access through hiking trails near B130.

The castle tower measures 21.67 meters in height and provides viewing areas that extend across the entire Eferding basin region.
