The Hoher Sonnblick rises to 3,106 meters within the Goldberg Group, featuring a prominent rock pyramid at its summit and extensive glacial formations.

The Sonnblick Observatory, established in the late 19th century, stands as one of Europe's highest permanent weather stations, recording meteorological data since its inception.

The surrounding area holds traces of historical gold mining activities, which gave the Goldberg Group its name and shaped local mining traditions.

The Zittelhaus mountain hut near the summit provides accommodation, while marked trails from different difficulty levels lead visitors through the mountain range.

On January 1, 1905, the mountain recorded Austria's lowest temperature of -37.4°C, contributing to its reputation as a significant meteorological research site.
