Mölltaler Gletscher

Mölltaler Gletscher is a glacier ski resort near Flattach where slopes reach above 3000 meters elevation across roughly 24 kilometers of terrain for different skill levels. Multiple cable cars and lift systems connect the terrain, with snow-making systems covering most runs to extend the skiing season.

Lift systems began operating in the mid-1900s when cable car technology made glacier access practical for skiers. This infrastructure allowed the area to grow from a seasonal destination into a year-round location with ongoing development.

The valley reflects Alpine traditions that shape how locals and visitors experience the mountains together, from meals in mountain huts to the way people move through the terrain. You can sense the connection to mountain life in everyday moments and seasonal celebrations throughout the year.

The best time to visit is from October through May when snow cover is most reliable and most slopes are open for skiing. Bring warm clothing and expect weather changes at high elevation, as conditions shift quickly in mountainous terrain.

This is the only glacier ski area in Carinthia and operates for most of the year due to its high elevation. The extended season lets both casual skiers and competitive teams train during periods when other resorts have limited options.
