Schloss Karlslust, Heritage château in Hardegg, Austria
Schloss Karlslust is a château in Hardegg near the Czech border in Lower Austria, built with a round tower and two-storey arcades in its courtyard. The structure displays classical architectural elements that characterize the building.
The château was founded in 1795 by Karl Josef Fürst Auersperg following the extinction of the Trautson family. The completion of its interior spaces under Heinrich Fischer in 1801 finished the project and made it an important regional residence.
The château takes its name from its founder Karl Josef Fürst Auersperg, who established it as a residence. The rooms still display the refined interior design from the early 1800s, which reflects the lifestyle of the ruling family.
The château sits north of the road between Niederfladnitz and Mitterretzbach in Hollabrunn district. The location is easily reached from the regional border and offers visitors insight into local history.
The grounds contain a wildlife park established in 1798 that has offered visitors views of local fauna ever since. Following the transfer of administrative functions from a neighboring castle, the property became an important administrative hub.
