Breiter Grießkogel

Breiter Grießkogel is a 3,287-meter summit in the Stubai Alps located between the Horlachtal and Sulztal valleys. Steep slopes and glacier fields dominate the mountain's structure and appearance.

The mountain takes its name from the village of Gries on its southern side, with 'Breiter' referring to its broad, hill-shaped form. This geographical naming reflects local understanding of the peak.

The Winnebachsee hut near the mountain serves as a central meeting point for mountaineers who gather to share experiences and local traditions.

Climbers can reach the summit via two main routes: the Grasstalltal path or the Larstig Valley trail, both requiring technical climbing skills. Proper equipment and alpine experience are necessary for either route.

The mountain's glacier section contains multiple crevasses with ice formations that shift and change patterns throughout the seasons. Each visit reveals visually different features depending on when you come.
