Hoher Seeblaskogel, Alpine summit in Stubai Alps, Tyrol, Austria
Hoher Seeblaskogel is an alpine summit in the Stubai Alps, Tyrol, Austria, rising to 3,235 meters with glaciers on multiple sides. The southern side features the Grüne-Tatzen glacier, while the northern face displays steep rock walls with ice fields.
The mountain was first climbed on August 20, 1881, by mountaineers L. Purtscheller and J. Schnaiter via the western flank. This early ascent marked the first documented reaching of the summit.
The name reflects German words for high, lake, and rounded peak, describing the mountain's position in a landscape of waters and summits. Visitors notice this connection when viewing the surrounding lakes and terrain from the slopes.
Climbers access the summit via two main routes starting from Winnebachsee Hut or Westfalenhaus, with both paths converging at the Grüne-Tatzen-Ferner glacier. Both routes require experience with glacier travel and climbing skills.
The mountain is composed mainly of Winnebach migmatite, a metamorphic rock formed under extreme pressure and temperature deep in the Earth's crust. This rare rock composition creates distinctive structural features that affect climbing conditions.
