Lisenser Fernerkogel, Mountain summit in Tyrol, Austria
Lisenser Fernerkogel is a mountain summit in the Stubai Alps standing at 3,298 meters (10,820 feet). A glacier covers its northern slope while steep rock faces define the other sides of the peak.
The Lisenser Ferner glacier reached its maximum extent in 1890, extending down to the valley floor. Since then the glacier has steadily retreated like most Alpine glaciers.
The mountain lies within the Sellrain subranges of the Stubai Alps, where local mountaineering traditions connect generations of Alpine communities.
Climbers should prepare for demanding conditions and bring complete mountaineering equipment including ice axes and crampons for glacier work. Summer offers the most stable and safest conditions for ascending and traversing the glacier.
A ridge running from the neighboring Schrankogel splits at Hinterer Brunnenkogel and forms a natural boundary encircling the glacier below. This rock formation creates a clear geographical pattern in the alpine landscape.
