Alpenzoo Innsbruck

Alpenzoo Innsbruck is a facility on the hills above the city where you can see about 150 animal species that all live in the Alps. The zoo spreads across several sections with enclosures, ponds, and areas for different types such as predators, birds, and aquatic animals.

The zoo was founded in the 1960s and focuses on showing and protecting alpine wildlife to the public. The founder and his team worked to preserve threatened species and return some back to nature.

The zoo displays animals native to mountain regions and helps visitors understand how these species live together in nature. The enclosures are designed so that you can see what Alpine habitats actually look like.

The zoo sits on a hill, so wear comfortable shoes and be ready for paths with slopes. A visit takes several hours, and there are shaded areas and places to rest.

The zoo's aquarium holds one of the world's largest systems for alpine freshwater fish and displays species that are rarely seen elsewhere. This exhibit is impressive for both experts and ordinary visitors.
