Weichtalhaus, Mountain hut in Reichenau an der Rax, Austria.
Weichtalhaus is a mountain hut located in the Höllental gorge between Rax and Schneeberg peaks at 547 meters elevation. The building sits beside the Weichtalklamm entrance and the Schwarza River, making it a central hub for hikers and climbers.
The hut was built in 1922 and underwent major modernization after closure, reopening in 2015. Since then it has served as an important base for mountaineers and nature enthusiasts in the region.
The three-story structure functions as a training and climbing center for Nature Friends of Vienna, providing facilities for numerous climbing-related educational activities.
The hut operates from March through November with sleeping options in dormitories, smaller rooms, and a comfort double room. Visitors should prepare for mountainous terrain and changing weather conditions when exploring the surrounding area.
The location opens access to more than 2000 climbing routes and sits within Austria's largest climbing area. A practice rock on the grounds allows visitors to develop their skills before attempting the larger routes.
