Gleirschspitze, Mountain summit in Nordkette range, Austria.
Gleirschspitze is a mountain summit in the Nordkette range near Innsbruck that reaches 2,317 meters in elevation. From the peak, visitors can see across to Innsbruck city and the surrounding Karwendel mountains very clearly.
The routes to Gleirschspitze were established in the 19th century as Alpine tourism grew in the Tyrolean region. This early development turned the mountain into an important climbing destination for visitors and mountaineers.
Local mountaineering associations maintain the trails and organize regular guided excursions to promote traditional Alpine climbing techniques and safety practices.
The ascent starts with the Nordkettenbahn cable car up to Hafelekar station, after which you hike to the summit. Depending on your chosen route, the hiking portion takes around one to two hours beyond the cable car ride.
The summit presents two distinct hiking loops with varying difficulties, including an intermediate 3.47 km route and an expert 4.37 km path.
