Karl-von-Edel-Hütte, Mountain hut at 2238 meters in Zillertal Alps, Austria
Karl-von-Edel-Hütte is a mountain hut at 2238 meters in the Zillertal Alps, situated below the Ahornspitze peak. The building contains 28 beds in private rooms and additional space for 52 guests in shared dormitory-style accommodations.
The hut was established in 1889 by the Würzburg Section of the German Alpine Club and initially accommodated 20 guests. Following severe avalanche damage in 1975, it underwent complete reconstruction and expansion.
The hut serves local Tyrolean cuisine made with regional ingredients that guests experience during their stay. Dining here connects visitors to the mountain region through its food and sourcing practices.
Visitors should bring sleeping bags and towels, as these are not provided. The easiest access is via the Ahornbahn cable car to Filzboden Station, followed by approximately one hour of walking to reach the hut.
The hut serves as the starting point for the Berlin High Trail, a 70-kilometer alpine route that traverses the Zillertal Alps. This long-distance trek connects multiple peaks and offers multi-day hiking opportunities for experienced mountain walkers.
