Palais Collalto

Palais Collalto is a palace in Vienna's Innere Stadt district featuring an ornate facade that blends Renaissance and Baroque design elements. The structure spreads across multiple levels with carefully balanced windows and intricate stonework carved into its walls.

The building first appeared in 1384 as one of Vienna's older urban structures. The Venetian Collalto family bought it in 1671 and carried out extensive renovations that gave it the form we see today.

The name reflects the Venetian Collalto family who shaped the building from the 17th century onward. Walking past the facade, you can sense the wealth and importance this place once held in Vienna's society.

The palace is located near Am Hof street in central Vienna and can be viewed from the street level. Visitors can admire the exterior from the surrounding neighborhood and take in the building as part of a walking tour of the area.

The building gained an unexpected place in music history when six-year-old Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart performed his first public concert here in 1762. This event marked the start of one of the most remarkable careers in classical music.
