Schloss Oberthal, Medieval castle in Thal, Austria
Located on the eastern slope of Kogelwald hills, Schloss Oberthal features four wings surrounding a central courtyard and a crenellated gate tower.
Originally a farmhouse belonging to Waldsdorf Castle in 1322, the property was transformed into a noble residence by the Windisch-Graetz family during the 14th century.
The dining hall contains a collection of historical armor, weapons, and antlers, while other formal rooms display paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries.
The castle stands at Schlossallee 2 in Thal, approximately 3.2 kilometers west of Graz, and remains under private ownership with limited public access.
The extensive French garden surrounding the castle includes grottos and a pleasure house dating from the mid-17th century, enclosed by a protective wall.
