Schlicker Alm, Mountain hut and pasture in Telfes, Austria
Schlicker Alm is a mountain hut and pasture located at 1,643 meters above sea level in the Austrian Alps near Fulpmes in the Stubaital valley. The accommodation has 42 beds and sits within a rolling landscape surrounded by forest trails and hiking paths that connect the surrounding terrain.
The area became known through the Schlickeralmlauf running event, which held World Championships in 1990 and 1996, bringing attention to the location as a competitive mountain sports venue. The event also hosted European Championships in 2009, further cementing its reputation in the regional running community.
The pasture holds a small chapel and hand-carved wooden sculptures scattered along the Naturlehrweg Schlick nature trail. These pieces reflect how mountain farming traditions have shaped the landscape and daily rhythms of the region.
Getting there works best by taking the Kreuzjoch Cable Car from Fulpmes to the midway station, then hiking for about an hour along the forest road toward the hut. The trail is well marked and manageable for most visitors, though the altitude and slope will test your fitness level.
Near the main building stands the Stubaiblick viewing platform, which opens up views toward the Tux Alps, Mount Patscherkofel, and the Kalkkögel range. These overlook points are often missed by visitors despite offering some of the finest mountain vistas across the region.
