Hoadl, Mountain summit in Tyrol, Austria

Hoadl is a 2,340-metre summit forming the northwestern end of the Kalkkögel range southwest of Innsbruck. Its eastern flanks carry the Axamer Lizum ski area, served by the Olympiabahn funicular and a 10-person gondola. The flat summit holds the Hoadl-Haus panorama restaurant, and the 2,327-metre Widdersberg rises to the southeast.

The Axamer Lizum ski area on Hoadl's eastern flanks hosted the alpine skiing events of the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck. The Olympiabahn funicular, built for the 1964 Games, still carries visitors from the valley to the slopes below the summit.

The summit restaurant is called Hoadl-Haus, and the peak is reached by the Olympiabahn funicular, named for the Winter Olympics held in the Axamer Lizum below. Ski tourers count the mountain as a standard objective, climbing from Grinzens in about four hours or following the piste from the Axamer Lizum in two.

A modern 10-person cable car connects the parking area at base elevation to the mountain station in about six minutes. This direct access works well for visitors of all fitness levels who want to reach the summit quickly.

The summit is reached by the Olympiabahn funicular and a 10-person gondola from the Axamer Lizum ski area on its eastern flank. The flat top holds the Hoadl-Haus panorama restaurant, and the 2,236 m Pleisen sub-peak rises just to the north above the villages of Birgitz, Axams, Grinzens and Sellrain.
