Olympiabahn

The Olympiabahn is a funicular in Axamer Lizum that connects the valley with the mountain and carries visitors upward in just a few minutes. The line climbs steeply and delivers passengers to an elevation where skiers and hikers begin their journeys.

The funicular was built in 1975 to support skiing ahead of the 1976 Winter Olympics. It followed earlier efforts to make the area accessible for winter sports.

The funicular is closely tied to skiers and snowboarders who use it to reach the slopes quickly. It forms part of the infrastructure that established Axamer Lizum as a winter sports destination.

The ride lasts just a few minutes, and service runs mainly during the winter season. Visitors should remember that weather at the top differs greatly from the bottom, so pack warm clothing.
