Olympiabahn

The Olympiabahn funicular stretches 2105 meters across the Austrian Alps, connecting the valley station at 1572 meters to the mountain station at 2334 meters elevation.

The railway infrastructure was established in 1975 to enhance transportation capabilities for the 1976 Winter Olympics, following the area's initial use in the 1964 Games.

The funicular represents a significant advancement in winter sports infrastructure, transforming Axamer Lizum into a primary destination for winter activities in Tyrol.

Operating at speeds of 10 meters per second during winter, the funicular transports 1200 passengers per hour between stations in approximately five minutes.

The railway system operates on a bridge structure suspended 1.5 to 20 meters above ground level, ensuring reliable operation regardless of snow conditions.
