Alpen Wildpark Feld am See, Wildlife park and museum in Feld am See, Austria
Alpen Wildpark Feld am See is a facility featuring enclosures for alpine animals alongside a museum section with preserved specimens. Visitors see live red deer, fallow deer, and mouflon sheep in large open enclosures as well as conserved animal displays from different continents.
The site began as a fallow deer farm founded by Josef Scherzer Senior in 1985, which later developed into a larger visitor destination. Over time, animal displays and exhibition areas were added to expand its educational role.
The park emphasizes how visitors can watch animals grazing in open enclosures that resemble their natural surroundings rather than enclosed cages. This approach reflects a philosophy of experiencing wildlife while respecting how these creatures actually live in nature.
The park is located at the edge of Feld am See and is accessible by car with parking available on site. The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon when animals are more active and light is better for photos.
The former barn now serving as a museum section is divided into three exhibition areas where visitors learn about animal species and their habitats. The building itself shows how historical farm structures have been repurposed for new uses.
