Granatium

The Granatium complex features multiple exhibition spaces and underground galleries displaying garnets, Europe's largest accessible garnet veins, and mining artifacts.

The mining facility, opened in 2008, stands on the grounds of former garnet mines that operated until 1909 in the Carinthia region.

The building preserves the local mining heritage through exhibitions, demonstrations, and hands-on activities where visitors extract and process garnets using traditional methods.

The museum operates from May to October, with summer hours extending from 10:00 to 19:00, offering guided tours in German, English, Italian, and Dutch.

Visitors can dig for garnets in designated areas, process their findings with professional equipment, and have their discoveries polished by expert gemstone grinders.
