Puthia Rajbari, Palace complex in Puthia, Bangladesh.
Puthia Rajbari is a two-story palace with Indo-European architecture featuring columns, floral decorations, and intricate wall patterns throughout. The complex includes six water tanks and six temples arranged around the main structure.
The palace was built in 1895 by Maharani Hemanta Kumari Devi to honor her mother-in-law Maharani Sharat Sundari Devi. It follows Bengal's architectural traditions and represents the power of the region's former landowning system.
The palace complex reflects the Hindu traditions of the former Puthia zamindari state through its layout and adjacent temples. Visitors can observe how religious and residential structures coexisted as part of daily life in this landowning community.
The estate is located about 32 kilometers northeast of Rajshahi and is easily reached by bus or train. A short road journey from Natore or Rajshahi will bring you to Puthia where the palace is situated.
The building features flat roofs with iron beams and wooden framework, surrounded by protective moats still visible today. These water channels served both defensive and practical irrigation purposes for the entire complex.
