Uttara Gano Bhaban, Historic palace in Natore District, Bangladesh
Uttara Gano Bhaban is a four-story palace in Natore District featuring an east-facing facade with pointed trefoil arched openings and a central projecting porch. The interior contains nine bedchambers, a durbar hall, dining room, and dance hall arranged across multiple levels.
The palace was built in 1734 by Raja Doyaram and has shaped the regional architecture for nearly three centuries. Following the 1897 earthquake, extensive reconstruction took place under Raja Pramada Nath Roy's direction.
The building served as a setting for royal ceremonies and state gatherings. Visitors can observe the craftsmanship of the era through carved furnishings and sculptural works displayed throughout the rooms.
The site sits about 2.4 kilometers from Natore town on a 43-acre compound protected by perimeter walls and a moat. A short journey from the town center makes it accessible for day visitors.
An Italian clock hangs on the main gate with a large bell and a dedicated clock room inside the compound. This mechanical timepiece stands as an unusual relic of the region's colonial connections.
