Rupsha Rail Bridge, Railway bridge in Khulna District, Bangladesh
The Rupsha Rail Bridge is a railway crossing over the Rupsha River in Khulna District, Bangladesh. It is built with a combination of truss sections and plate girders, all resting on reinforced concrete piles driven into the riverbed.
The bridge was built through a partnership between Bangladesh Railway and the Indian company Larsen and Toubro. Construction finished in 2022, and trains began running across it the following year.
The bridge links Khulna city to Mongla Port, giving people along the river a direct rail connection that was not there before. Locals and workers use this crossing daily, and watching a freight or passenger train pass over the water has become a common sight along the riverbank.
The bridge can be seen from the riverbank, since access onto the structure itself may be restricted due to active train operations. Early morning and late afternoon offer the clearest views of the crossing against the water.
Although the bridge has only been open for a few years, it represents the first direct rail link ever built between Khulna and Mongla Port. Before it existed, travelers and goods moving between these two points had no rail option at all.
