Bibi Chini Mosque, Archaeological Islamic monument in Betagi Upazila, Bangladesh.
Bibi Chini Mosque is an Islamic architectural monument in Betagi Upazila with a compact square plan and three entrance openings on its sides. The walls are thick and robust, giving the structure a solid appearance designed to endure.
Shah Neyamat Ullah founded this mosque in 1659 during the rule of Shah Shuja in Bengal, contributing to the spread of Islamic faith in the region. The structure stands as evidence of the religious and cultural expansion of that period.
The mosque takes its name from Chini Bibi, the daughter of Shah Neyamat Ullah, carrying a personal story within its identity. Visitors can see three graves beside the building that commemorate the founder and his two daughters.
The monument is maintained by the Department of Archaeology of Bangladesh and remains well-preserved for visitors. Local transport connections from Barguna district center provide straightforward access to the site.
The building was constructed using typical Mughal-era techniques and materials visible in its structural details. These craftsmanship methods make it a rare example of Mughal architecture in this part of Bengal.
