Barisal Polytechnic Institute is a government technical institute on Polytechnic Road in the Alekanda area of Barisal. Founded in 1962, it runs four-year Diploma-in-Engineering courses under the Bangladesh Technical Education Board. Its eight departments cover civil, computer, electrical, electronics, power, mechanical, electro-medical and tourism and hospitality technology, with classes held in morning and afternoon shifts.

Founded in 1962, this school has shaped technical training in Bangladesh for more than six decades. It grew alongside the nation's increasing demand for skilled workers in industry and infrastructure.

In 1995, Barisal Polytechnic Institute was named the best polytechnic institute in Bangladesh and received a national award. The campus has two male hostels, Muktijoddha and Ekushey, and the Shaheed Janani girls' hostel with 40 seats; the Muktijoddha hostel is currently closed.
